Life changing moment to CCNA in 7 months

We all need that one thing that pushes us to make the leap daring to imagine something better for ourselves and family. This moment I am describing happened to me in January of 2019 as the company I was working for just announced that we had been sold to another company. News like this can strike terror in your heart as you realize that your job could be eliminated if there is redundancy in the other company. I had not been at the company but for 5 or 6 months when this happened and having just gotten away from a terrible previous employer i was concerned because I did not have any marketable "skills" that could land me another job quickly.

This is when I stumbled upon a video which began the life change.

I had been selected prior to seeing this video to be gifted a one year all access subscription to https://davidbombal.com/ . This was my moment that I could either seize or I could just stay where I was comfortable. So I decided I was going to carpe diem to change not only my life but that of my family.

I also joined an online community of network professionals called Routergods (https://www.meetup.com/routergods/) which is an amazing community of people who are there to help and push you to more. Highly recommend if you are serious about your career join this group, trust me you will not regret it.

From February 2019 to July 2019 my weekday mornings were spent getting up early to be at work 2 hours before my shift to study/lab/watch to obtain that CCNA certification.  I rigorously studied because I wanted to change from the finance field into the IT field not only because I love tech but I wanted to make more money to be able to better support my family. It takes focus and determination to study on your own and achieve that certification. I was able to pass both ICND1 and ICND2 on my first attempts.

I run sound at my church and them knowing that I am a Network Engineer approached me about the Wifi. Google CyberSecurity Course so far

Hello Fellow Tech People!  As I discussed in my last post I am currently working through Google's course on cybersecurity. I have to say that I'm fairly impressed with this course and am only half way through so far. This course covers a lot of foundational concepts for security and the cybersecurity field. As you progress through each module it builds on the foundation of the previous module giving you a solid place to continue to learn and build from. Right now I have covered foundation of security, managing risk, networking and network security and am working on tools of Linux and SQL. All of these have been fantastic and as I've stated a great primer for jumping into the field. Coursera has built a terrfic course and is worth the money on spending to obtain the certification from Google. The cost is fairly inexpensive if you can dedicate time everyday to the course in a steady pace. I was fortunate enough to get cousera for a month for $1 so I thought I would try it out...

Study Aids - Updated Nov. 2021

Updated! Hello Friends! Today I will be talking about the study aids I use when studying for a Cert. I generally like to study by myself because I can go at my own pace and stop to lab out a concept without having the worries of holding up a group. However on occasion I find that I need something to keep me accountable and to feel like somebody else is there.
